This is pioneer woodland with Ash, Hornbeam, Silver birch and Goat willow, all planted as nurse species to protect the slower growing climax species: Oak, Sweet Chestnut, Hornbeam.

Song thrushes remind us that we are in a man made environment, Quite recently created as a green interface between wildlife and people. You will not necessarily find things here that you would find naturally in old woodland. Artificial anvils have been created for thrushes with concrete lumps. Shattered snailshells are evidence that these are used.
